Density of Rational Curves on K3 Surfaces
Using the dynamics of self rational maps of elliptic K3 surfaces together with deformation theory, we prove that the union of rational curves is dense on a very general K3 surface and that the union of elliptic curves is dense in the 1st jet space of a very general K3 surface, both in the strong topology. The techniques developed here also lend themselves to applications to Abel-Jacobi images, ...
متن کاملSeveri varieties and self rational maps of K3 surfaces
0.1 Notations. We deal in this paper with complex projective K3 surfaces, i.e. smooth K-trivial complex projective surfaces without irregularity. Let φ : S 99K S be a dominant self rational map. Suppose Pic(S) = Z. Then there exists a positive integer l such that φOS(1) ∼= OS(l). It is the algebraic degree of φ, that is the degree of the polynomials defining φ. There always exists an eliminatio...
متن کاملRational Self Maps of Calabi-Yau Manifolds
We prove that a very general Calabi-Yau (CY) complete intersection in Pn does not admit a nontrivial dominant rational self map, assuming that the same holds for very general K3 surfaces of genus 3, 4 and 5. One of the crucial steps of our proof makes use of Mumford’s result on the Chow ring of zero-dimensional cycles on a surface with nontrivial holomorphic 2-forms.
متن کاملOn an automorphism of Hilb of certain K3 surfaces
In a recent note [O], K. Oguiso uses the structure of the cohomology of compact hyperkähler manifolds ([V]) to describe the behaviour of the dynamical degrees of an automorphism of such a manifold, and makes an explicit computation in some particular cases. One of his examples is the following: he considers a K3 surface S admitting two embeddings as a quartic in P (given by two different very a...
متن کاملConstructing Rational Curves on K3 Surfaces
We develop a mixed-characteristic version of the MoriMukai technique for producing rational curves on K3 surfaces. We reduce modulo p, produce rational curves on the resulting K3 surface over a finite field, and lift to characteristic zero. As an application, we prove that all complex K3 surfaces with Picard group generated by a class of degree two have an infinite number of rational curves.
